Regardless of the Creative Commons license used, the following principles apply:

- The right to attribution (acknowledgment of the author's name) must be respected. This is a moral right, inalienable, perpetual, and non-transferable;

- Permission to reproduce, distribute, and communicate the work to the public in its original format, including in composite works, is granted on a non-exclusive and royalty-free basis;

- The license and chosen options must be clearly indicated with each use or distribution of the work, preferably in the form of a link to the license;

- All clauses, including the attribution clause, can be waived on a case-by-case basis by the rights holder through contractual negotiation, whether gratuitously or for consideration;

- When redistributing a work, possibly modified, it is impossible to impose conditions of use on the work that alter or restrict the terms of the original license.

When the work is a database, the terms of the license apply to its structure and content. Reuse of the database structure (the container) and extraction of the data it contains (the content) are permitted.
